This Christmas: my review on the movie...

I went to see this movie over the long weekend, and I thought it was really good! It's definitely a good movie to start off the holiday season. I'm always in favor of a movie that portrays blacks (or African Americans, whichever you prefer to say) in a positive light. It wasn't a movie about bitches and ho's, or anything degrading. It had realistic scenarios, that real people like you and me could relate too. The actors and actresses were all really good, and everyone had their own stand out part. Oh and not for nothin', but the brotha's (and yea I have to say it like that!) in this movie, were nice to look at, you feel me? Haha. This movie kind of reminded me of a Tyler Perry movie. At some parts it almost felt like Madea was going to pop out of no where haha! I'm not going to tell you all about the movie and spoil it, but I would definitely recommend seeing it. I'm not sure it will get the recognition that it should, but lets face it, movies like these get pushed to the back sometimes for reasons that you and I know are ridiculous, but it's the world we live in. Hopefully it will stand out enough to get some good publicity. Over all I thought it was good, and I'll be buying it when it comes out on DVD :) I hope you enjoy it if you go to see it!

Thankful / Turkey Day recap

So it's a few days after Thanksgiving that I'm writing this, but it's never to late to recognize what you're thankful for. My turkey day ended up being a really good day. About 30-40 of my family members and I were all gathered together at the church we all grew up in. Ok I'll be honest I haven't been to church in years! But that's besides the point. It was nice because we all haven't been together in the same place in a long time. I think one of the big reasons for that is because my grandmother (on my dads side) has Alzheimer's and has been in a nursing home for the past few years. She was the matriarch of the family since my grandpa passed when I was 6, so when she got sick, the family kind of fell apart. If you're thinking of the movie "Soul Food," it's a very similar situation. Speaking of my grandmother... my uncle and one of my cousins were able to take her from the nursing home for a few hours and bring her to the church. Though she had no clue who any of us were, it was nice to have her there. It was sad to see her that way, because just a few years ago she was perfectly fine. Aside from her Alzheimer's, she is in pretty good health for being in her 80's... but lets be honest, I think I'd rather her have a few other things wrong with her just in exchange for her to have her memory. But truly I was so thankful that she is still here and was able to join us for the holiday. I'm also so thankful that my family members and I all did manage to get together last Thursday. You know it can be tough tryin' to get a bunch of minorities together LOL. It was nice considering I have no idea when we'll all have another opportunity to be together again. I love all of my family to pieces, and I'm thankful to have each and every one of them.

I hope everyone and anyone reading this had a great holiday!

I was tagged!

I got tagged by my cuzo, High Fidelity.

So here's the rules:

A). Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.

B). Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself.

C). Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.

D). Let each person know that they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Well, here we go! Seven Random/Weird LifesABeach Facts:

  1. I love flip fops. I have so many pairs of flip flops in various different colors, it's crazy! I wish I could wear them all year round. I sometimes still do wear them in the winter when it's cold out. Though when it's snowing I do put on regular shoes.

  2. I'm a left-handed when writing, but do everything else right-handed. My dad and my brother, who are both righties taught me how to play sports, so I learned everything the right-handed way. So really aside from writing, I consider myself to be right hand dominant. I guess I'm somewhat ambidextrous :)

  3. I love ladybugs! I know that's sort of weird, but I do! I have a lot of ladybug bug objects in my room. I think part of my obsession with them is that my grandma (on my dads side) used to call me ladybug when I was little. But most people that know me, when they see things that deal with ladybugs, they think of me haha.

  4. I sneeze in 3's! For some strange reason, whenever I sneeze they seem to come in multiple of 3's. Haha that just rhymed didn't it? Awww yeaaaaa. Ok ok back to business here.

  5. I collect shot glasses. I collect them from wherever I go, whether it's on a big vaction or just another store that I've never been too. I like unique ones, as well as shot glasses that have different locations on them. I used to just collect them on places I've been too, but now when I now someone who is going somewhere that I've never been, I usually ask them to pick up a shot glass for me.

  6. I met the Verizon Wireless test guy! You know, the "Can you hear me now?" guy from the commercials. I used to work at the Verizon Wireless headquaters and he was there promoting some of the new phones coming out. What many people don't know is that he is an actual Verizon Wireless employee... a very well paid employee! Haha. But his name is Paul and that's his actual job to test the phones and test them in different areas, etc.

  7. I keep old movie tickets. Whenever I go to the movies, I usually try to keep the other half of the ticket. I eventually want to put them in a scapbook. I think it would be neat (wow, did I just say neat?! lol) to look back at it in like 30 years or so and see what movies I went too.

Well, there it is! Seven random/weird facts about me. Since I've just started blogging this week, I don't know many people on here, so I don't have anyone to tag! :(

New to blogging

So I'm new to this whole blogging thing. I've of course read others blogs, but never created one for myself until now. What made me decide to create one now you ask? Good question... I guess something to pass the time, or just simply share all of the little thoughts roaming around in my head.

As I mentioned in the "about me" section my user name can have two meanings, depending on the situation. I love the beach, and when I'm there, I feel like nothing else matters. I can just lay there and listen to the waves crash, the wind blow, and I feel so relaxed. I don't live that far from the beach, but I wish I lived closer. I could have the worst day or week, but when I go to the beach it helps clear my mind. It's a place I can go by myself and feel completely comfortable with it. One of these days, hopefully I'll live on or closer to the beach. So when I say life's a beach my ideal world for myself would revolve around the beach because that's where I feel most at home.

On the contrary, life sure as hell can be a bitch! It's not always like that, but there are situations you go through in life that just aren't always happy and bubbly. Life has been a bitch at times for me, and I'm sure it'll happen again because that's life. But on a positive note, those experiences have all played a part in making me who I am today and who I strive to be in the future.

Well that's all for now!
